doctorWe are happy to announce that W. Michael Shea, MD, has joined the Radiation Oncology practice of Dr. Gordon Grado, Dr. Michael Sapozink, and Dr. Frank Danziger at Yuma Oncology Center, 1951 West 25th Street, Suite F, Yuma, Arizona. Dr. Shea is well known in the Yuma community, having co-founded Sonoran Desert Oncology (now Yuma Regional Cancer Center) in 2008.

Dr. Shea is an experienced and highly trained physician with multiple board certifications. After graduating from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1977, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Naval Hospital, San Diego. Later he completed a residency in Radiation Oncology at the Joint Center for Radiation Therapy, Harvard Medical School, in Boston. More recently, he was awarded board certification in Palliative Medicine, having served the hospice communities in several locations throughout his long career.
While focusing most of his energy on the practice of radiation oncology, he is also the assistant medical director at Hospice of Yuma. His scope of practice is unusually broad and holistic. He believes strongly that the best cancer care requires attention to lifestyle issues including fitness, nutrition, spirituality, financial wellbeing, and honest assessment of the goals, costs, and expected benefits of treatment for cancer and other chronic illnesses.

As a past clinical preceptor for Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, he is acquainted with many complementary and alternative cancer treatment methods, and he works hard to maintain optimistic, open- minded, empathetic, and compassionate relationships with all of his patients. He is the only physician in Yuma who uses acupuncture for treatment of pain, nausea, peripheral neuropathy, and other troublesome conditions often seen in cancer patients.
We welcome Dr. Shea to our practice. He is immediately available for consultations regarding general cancer management, radiation therapy, and supportive care. Yuma Oncology Center offers radiation treatment using Tomotherapy, a highly focused, helical intensity-modulated external beam radiation technique, and XOFT, an advanced, eco-friendly electronic high dose rate method for delivering low-energy radiation that is ideally suited for treatment of cancers of the skin and selected other sites.
